I started making a tank for when i get a snapper and i've made it so theres a piece of wood half way up the tank dividing 1/3 (for rocks) from the 2/3 im going to fill with water and was wondering wats a good material(rocks dirt sand etc) to fill the 1/3 up with for land?

i'd use rocks, otherwise he may track dirt or sand into the water and make it dirty. they tend to be more aquatic than other turtles...most of the time. be creative and post pics when finished. good luck

k thanks and i will post pix if i can find out how and get my digi cam working lol but its nothing special and im thinking of jsut buying a turtle dock(petsmart sells them for like 8 bucks) and i think its better cause it will take up less room then wat i was gonna make.

its a floating dock/ramp for the small/meduim size turtle to get out of the water and to bask on too.

use a sand substrate, no exceptions. snapping turtles love to dig. They may become stressed if they are housed in conditions that are un-natural. Now if you really want to make him happy use a dirt substrate, it will provide him with murky water,which they love. The bad thing about this is that you will never be able to see him. For simplicity reasons just use sand, it will save you alot of trouble in the long run.
