Albino Retic Prices ?

Bob_Benner Apr 11, 2004 02:39 AM

How long does everyone think before we see a decline in the price of albino retics ? I am considering getting a male albino and a couple het females, but I am just wondering if it is still a good investment. Obviously more and more are being produced each year now, and many should be produced this year. I also dont want to spend a few grand now, and in 6-8 months be sorry because the price has dropped several hundred dollars. I know we wont see them going for 500.00 anytime soon, but I was just curious on everyones oppinion on this.

we will see a big drop as many people have them in their projects. But the big guys (Clark, Prehistoric, Wilbanks etc...) are still sticking with $2000 for babies. Good luck and I still think they will be a good investment as well as great pets for years to come. They are awesome animals.

lol.

But something tells me that the prices with the majority of the big guys will remain 2k for a while. But from what I understand there is some nut in California that is going to let them go really cheap. I don't know, it could just be a rumor.

The price has leveled at 2k because there are not enough animals to meet demand at that price. We all ran out before the new babies came, so there is not a surplus of animals, except maybe an extra male or two. These are true market forces. I laugh at the conspiracy theory, price fixing stuff. There may be an adjustment next year, but it will depend on supply and demand. Also, we have talked about selling them graded, so you may be able to get a lower grade Lavender for less at some point.

I think maybe the person in California that Brian is talking about is a little premature having a "Clearance Sale" before he has hatched a single animal.

The prices will remain high for a few more years yet. And it isn't just because there are a small number of people producing them (including me). It is the phenomenon of "the latest craze" that will help to keep the prices high. Because virtually every breeder is pouring the majority of their albino tic resources into creating albino tigers and supers het for albino,... it greatly reduces the number of albino normals produced. Because the number is greatly reduced in direct corealation with the tiger and super projects, the availability is greatly reduced and thus the market is not saturated and in turn the prices remain high. I predict that the prices will remain over 1500 this year in general, even if an occasional individual is found for cheaper. And that the prices for the albino king of pythons will remain over 1000 for a few years after this one. I don't think we'll see them as low as say, 500 for at least a decade. So for a snake that has upwards of 60 babies per clutch I'd say that even in the worst case scenario it is still a damn good investment. Say a pair for 3k,. 3 or 4 years later even 30 babies sold cheap would fetch over 15k. Pretty solid.

Well Bob You said yourself that you don't think to see them at $500 anytime soon, so considering the clutch sizes of retics and the early breeding possibilities it will certainly be a profitable investment at the current cost of "inventory". Just crunch some hypothetical numbers and you will see the light. I did the same thing you did. Some food for thought, Jay at Prehistoric has het super tigers for $4000.00, now think about that one.
