Crowding cichlids works great for reducing territorial aggression...I don't believe it holds up in collareds. Notice they were not set up to sell to breeders so-to-speak...mostly males in the tank. Catches the eye and makes you want to want one. Just my opinion. I hate to see them all tanked up together like that. I'd rather see a guy pull individual males from individual socks!
John
what a rotten shame that the vendor selling these collareds is keeping multiple adult males in the same enclosure. Quite likely these are wild-caught animals, which are already under a great deal of stress as is. Always sad to see this scenario, particularly at "major" shows such as IRBA events.
Brock
it is really really sad but at least they weren't fighting....i would buy them all if i could but bam bam and pebbles are already putting quite a strain on me
if you (or anyone else) were to buy any or all of these lizards, it would arguably be doing more harm than good. In the event this vendor was able to find a willing market for the w.c. collareds, you can bet he/she would be right back at it next time around, and perhaps with even more lizards than before. Please folks, I highly encourage you to acquire captive bred animals over wild caught whenever possible...
Brock
you know...i didnt even think about it like that. and if it makes you feel any better about me...i got my captive bred lizards from paul mcintosh
he sells them so dang cheap, and has pretty nice lizards LOL
He must have lots of hatchlings every year.
LOL You goofy thing, you have gorgeous Collareds that will get great homes !
Eve
You did well, as Paul produces some very attractive collareds. My plea to choose c.b. over w.c. was certainly not meant to be directed at you. :0)
Brock
the wholesalers! They put 100 collareds in a 30 x 40 inch cage and then wonder why they die. It is a shame. Maybe they think they are like african cichlids. If you put a bunch of them into together they won't know who to pick on first and they will be ok. It really is disheartening. I have a freind who is a wholesaler and I don't know how many times I have seen him get in a dozen chuckwallas and stick them in a 50 gallon and say "Man this was a bad batch they all died". Well duh! Sorry for the rant. Tom
"I thought I lived in a stressful environment. Pretty funny, you and I came up with the same exact analogy...the cichlid crowding. I use to breed chichlids too.
John Eddington
Boy, were we all cut from the same mold LOL
Eve
and yes, it is certainly something very disturbing to witness.
