what Jun 13, 2003 05:43 PM

I found some pinky house mice (wild)in my animal building. Can I just freeze them and kill the parisites(if they have any) or can try to cathc mom by luring her with the babys squeeking, and raaise them up? I'm int he process of trying to catch the mom just in case. Please reply soon!!

Freezing does kill the parasites, but might not kill everything. Using the to catch the mom might work, or they might get eaten by another animal. The best way to catch mom is to get one of those sticky pad traps that the mice stick to when the walk on them. Put some food on there to catch her. You will have to carefully cut some of the hair stuck to the pad to get her free. Even if you do catch the mouse it will try to bite you everytime you try to clean her cage cause it's a wild animal, and who knows what kind of disease she is carrying. It's better to buy some captive bred mice and breed them for good quality food.

I do agree with what you said.. I was wanting another persons opinion though. I'll probabl just feed them to some of my scorpions or spiders. It doesn't bother them much. I just hate to have to waste there lives.

Wild mice are not tame and may not be tameable, have parasites, germs, viruses, etc..... I know it seems like a cool project, but I recomend against it. If you have other rodents especially.
