Anyone used DeFlea Reptile relief for mites? I made a mistake with it, need some comments...

My collection has a minor mite problem after a few were brought in on a trade a couple months ago. Last night I noticed my big female cuban boa was starting to shed so I helped her out. She had been soaking in her water bowl for a couple days and I noticed there were about 20 - 30 mites in the bottom. So after she was done I treated her again with the DeFlea. Then I read the label immediately afterward and it says not to treat snakes for 6 hours after they shed their skin. I accidentally waited about 1 minute. She looks and seems fine. I'm not even sure what problems it could cause. But I'm just wondering if I actually have anything to worry about or if that's just a precaution they have to write on the bottle? I've heard this stuff isn't the greatest but I wanted to try it because it's so mild on the animal. It hasn't exactly "worked" for me. I've treated 3 snakes that I've noticed mites on twice in the last month. We'll see if they come back again. If they do, I'm gonna order another bottle of the trusty Black Knight. At least then, I know they'll be wiped out for sure. Anyone have any opinions or suggestions? Thanks alot.

Welll Steve and I use a combination of Reptile Relief and Provent-A-mite. We treat the animals with Reptile Relief and we treat the tank and all the elements inside the tank with the Provent-a-mite. It has worked well for us in the past and we have never had any problems with other outbreaks. As for the waitting after the shed i think its more for the sensitivity of the newly revealed shed more than anything, but if your snake looks okay i bet that your out of the woods with it. I just wanted to give you another option to do if your way wasnt handling the mites. This always works for us sooo... anyways good luck with your snakes and i wish you luck in solveing this problem.

Sincerely,
Rose & Steve

I can't forsee any real problems developing because of the DeFlea. A snake doesn't usually shed until its new skin is completely developed. I can't see an extra 6 hours making that much of a difference... especially if you're snake has been soaking quite a bit.

I myself have had such great results with Black Knight on mites that I will more than likely never use anything else. It is such a great product.

BTW... HomesickAggie... I'm an old Ag living in Houston now, but I come back to good old CS frequently. Where do you call home?
