NY bill pet dealers = selling 25 animals a year - boids classified as dangerous

Katrina Apr 11, 2004 10:45 AM

http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?bn=A09988&sh=t

NY residents, or those that do business in NY, might want to contact delegates now. Boids that attain an adult length of more than 8 feet will be classified as dangerous and the sale banned.

Katrina

"Pet Dealer" means any person, firm, partnership, corporation, or other association which engages in the sale of more than nine animals per year for profit {to the public}. Such definition shall include breeders who sell animals; provided that a breeder who sells directly to the consumer fewer than twenty-five animals per year that are born and raised on the {breeders} BREEDER`S residential premises shall not be considered a pet dealer as a result of the sale of such animals

That poses the question..."8 feet one inch is dangerous?"

Aother example of the "Brilliance" of the legislative world.

hmmm... that's funny but i recall several cases were people have been killed or severely wounded by dogs...

hmmm... it must be my mistake that i can't remember the last time someone in my area/state was killed by a boid whose adult legth exceeded eight feet in length.

hmmm... boids in ny must be more dangerous or something... since we all know politicians are infalible.

>:O

sure people have died or become the subject of attack by their animals but every case i've heard across the US has been due to mistakes on the part of the keeper. Never have i heard of a properly maintained boid becoming a danger to the public at large.

yay for the nanny-state

oh well. whatever. glad i don't sell reptiles in ny.

let the flaming begin... or not... whatever.

"oh well. whatever. glad i don't sell reptiles in ny."

Do you sell reptiles in ANY state? Bills, once passed, have a way of jumping from one state to another. Better to help in getting one stopped in another state before it is passed than to try to fight it in your own state once it is established elsewhere.

You're right. State legislatures do like to plagiarize one another.

Simultaneously convincing their constituents that whatever idea another state had enacted is good for their state and an original idea of whatever politician supports it -> another wonderful aspect american politics

Rockin! So I can move to New York and start breeding stiletto snakes! But not skunks and gennets, who have been known to roam the streets in packs feeding on the flesh of the living!
