stinky eggs

llechler Apr 11, 2004 12:13 PM

Well, the two eggs that were laid on Tuesday have firmed up very nicely. However, it's been only 6 days, and when I opened the container for air exchanged, noticed a very strong stink coming from the container. I am using vermaculite as a medium and had moist paper towels on them for a couple days (so the soft eggs would firm up). Do you think this could be a sign of infertile eggs?

I've noticed that moist vermiculite has a strong musty smell, but if the ordor is actually foul my guess would be that the eggs are rotting. Just in case they're okay though, I'd wait to pitch them until they collapse or start growing mold.
