if an animal is het for a trait, it means that it is "carrying" the trait without expressing it, but can pass it on to its offspring. So if you had a het patternless and a patternless you could breed them together and you would get half of them as patternless and half of them as hets. I tried to put that into simple terms...let me know if it makes sense!
