Yellows-male 8-10'/ females 10-12'----Greens-male 10-12'/ female 16-20 '. In this forum there is more people that have green anacondas, I have only seen 3-4 people that have yellows. So I would have to say that there are more greens kept as pets. I hope this helps.----Eric----

as far as size...eric had it pretty much down..of course some male greens can even be less than 10 feet at adulthood and some female greens can actually come closer to the 30 foot mark. but these are more rare cases. same with yellows...eric deffinitely showed the high end..i have seen an adult breeding male less than 7 feet and it is not uncommon. i have no idea why so many people have greens in this forum but i have to say that by far more people have yellows. i see multiple breeders selling yellows at every show. at the lee watson swap near chicago for example...yellow anaconda breeders are always there (mark petros being a very good breeder). green anacondas only show up every few months or so and usually it is only one or two and even less often are they cb. most people do not want to deal with the size and temper that most green anacondas hold and even less people want to try and make a labor intesive breeding project out of them with many of them not only needing space but high amounts of water which would double the space. Kelly Haller (a frequent contributor to these posts) has an article in reprtiles magazine from a few months back that shows his successful breeding of greens without high amound of water and they had pretty nice temperments...so who knows maybe things will be changing here in a few years and they will be as common as the reticulated python who has shown great temperment changes with generations of captive breeding. i do attribute many of the high amounts of green in the US to be the great number of imports that are shipped in and out of florida. i have to say there must be less imported yellows because of their smaller range and their more southern range putting that much more distance between them and the united states(not that it should matter because we have no problem with the reticulated trade)....if you are interested in finding out more about anacondas read a lot of these posts..there are some smart cookies in here...and check out the links people posted about the other 2 species of anaconda that are often overlooked.

the big big big anacondas are more rare in captivity...but if you check out the serpent safari in the gurnee mills mall or look up "baby" on the net..you will find that the largest snakes in the world are in captivity (and in relatively small cages). I contribute this only to the fact that they were imported at one time and that they are very over fed...i believe the last time i visited i was told they were taking 7 chickens at a time...baby is a burmese python who is over 27 feet and over 400 and some pounds. they also have the anaconda used for the movie anaconda. she is 22 feet and i think over 350 lbs. if you watch animal planet "the big squeeze" was a show that gave luis didanno (sp?) (owner of the serpent safari) some publicity when his 20 something foot reticulated python killed him for a few minutes. now there is a 17 foot retic in its same cage.
