individual snakes seem to get used to their keeper, especially over multiple years...it's often not very obvious except to the keeper. SJM
I believe it is trust.
A friend of mine had a lion fish that was poisonous. My friend would go the tank and all ok .... I walked to the tank and the fish came to the front of the tank and tried to attack me!!
I could not believe it!

The home of the singing snakes!

I've had King cobras (O. hannah), Taipans (O. s. canni), and Black mambas (D. polylepis), that would act totally different if someone other than just myself was in the room. I dont think Balls are active enough, or have enough personality for it to be noticable though.

I got my first ball over ten years ago and I used to take him out when we had a keg party in college (dumb I know...I have educated myself about responsible herp ownership since then). Anyway...I would pass Damian off to someone and man would he get nervous...squirming all over. He would turn back towards me and slither back into my arms and up over my shoulder and around my neck, then he would literally relax! That snake knows me from other people...no doubt about it. I agree with what was said above...probably trust. Also...why wouldn't a snake recognize it's owner...we all smell differently...easy way to recognize us from other people.
Cool! I haven't been keeping Balls long enough to see any of this, but I have noticed a few of mine hate me, and will not pass up a chance to make me bleed LOL.
Thanks,
Chad
Don't take it personal. They probably just have an attitude problem!!!!
