I read those temp guns are not accurate reading body temps, but that's just what I read. I'd geuss its body to be the same as the temp of the cage. Reptiles are coldblooded, so their body temps are that of the enviornment.

I know they're not accurate measuring human body temperature, unless you point them at your ear just right. Surface temps and core temps are different, and my hands measure at 85 degrees. So I'd imagine it wouldn't be that different for monitors. f

"shoulds" dont necessarily apply when it comes to reptiles... or life for that matter. Like they say, give em an abundance of options and let them do the choosing.

A basking spot at (surface, use your temp gun) 130 f to air temps (probe thermometer, ambient temps) from 86-68f, and each area must be big enough for the animals entire body to fit into so that they can use those temps. They also use a range of humidities from cool and damp (underground) to dry and warm (the basking spot). They know what body temp they need when they need it for digesting (one temp), immune system (another), to sleeping (yet another). Give them a good range to choose from, they are the experts we are only caregivers and keepers as well learning from them.

just provide them the most and the least w/ regards to temp and humidity and let them choose what's best for them...let them live their life to the fullest...
