provent a mite came in need help on usage please

tvrsir Apr 11, 2004 05:59 PM

okay many of you might have read my post on my war with mites. well my trusty provent a mite can cam in from exotic lizards or reptile i forgot. well i tore the enclosure aprt today. i took out the boa treated her with reptile relief and place her a temporary hold in a cricket keeper. took out my pothos plant and driftwood. place both of thhose items ina trash bag and sprayed plant insecticide on them and also a spray of provent a mite and i closed up the bag. i took the enclosure with aspen substrate and place it into a nother bag. spray the substrate from about 12-13 inches away back and forth quickly. then closed up the bag. took both of them and place them both outside in 35 degree chicago SPRING WEATHER . WELL MY QUESTION IS DID I DO everything so far right? also when should i open the bag and how long should i let it aerate before i place my boa and her water dish back and set everything back up?

Throw out the aspen, and put newspaper and a water dish (nothing else) in the enclosure, until you are absolutely certain you have no more mites. The way you used it will kill the mites in the aspen, but you don't want a bunch of dead mites laying around in the substrate.

the other guy was right when he said, put only newspaper and water bowl back in. less chance of mites.
Id clean the whole room real well, take that provent a mite spray it around any windows in room, and doors.
To use the provent a mite on newspaper, i do it outside, i spray the newspaper at a rate of about 2 seconds per sq.ft. and then i let it dry thouroughly, even untill the next day, depending on how quick it dries.
Then put it in the enclosure.
Also take a paper towell and spray some provent a mite on it, and wipe around all the enclosures openings. Let dry.
Once you put paper and water bowl back in then add the snake.
Dont spray directly on snakes or let them breath the fumes.
Good luck.
