Coral Albino and normal baby boas just shed pictures>>

STUART Jun 13, 2003 06:40 PM

Hmm Im starting to figure this out I think lol. I have been selling corals as normals all this time. But looking at the first clutch this year I think I notice the differences lol. Here are two babies from the same clutch notice the differences. Its quite obvious. Although I wish I was as confident selling these as corals as some of the other breeders. I have held back these high colored babies and they do turn purple and pink. Out of 8 albinos this year I got 3 of these purple saddled ones not quite 50% but close. I also am noticing something else. Het corals??? Hmmm many people have told me how red the saddles were on some of my hets yea I thought they were just really nice looking boas but now Im wondering can you tell a het coral albino? Here is a nice red saddled het albino looks more red in person of course but you get the idea:

Im guessing also this will throw coral babies I have to look through this years hets and pick out the ones with red saddles and see if its about 50/50 ratio if it is then Im guessing this coral thing is a co-dominate like trait even in the hets not just albinos but I guess Petes been saying that now lol.

I was under the impression that the coral trait was some sort of recessive, with the jury still out on exactly how it is passed. Your hign color albinos definately seem to be working in some kind of dominant fashion. And they just keep getting better with age....

Imagine an albino that looked like this(het sister to the ones in your post, but from the 2001 litter).....I can't wait til the day she throws some albinos for us.

I'm curious Stuart. I know a guy that has a "Coral" Albino male (photo attached), and it has a good amount of orange flecking on its face and down its body. It, like your babies, displays somewhat of a "purple" background coloration (you mentioned this as a trait of your babies, however this male does not exhibit the red saddles). Do you have any more information on what defines a Coral? Just curious, as he is wondering what to expect from breeding this male to say a "normal" 100% Het. Albino, among other females.

Please let me know, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Beauty! I kind of have a female that looks like that. Ok heres the thing, as far as I can tell. Babies with the dark purple/red saddles tend to hold and gain more of the coloration or gain the reddish, purples, and pinks as they mature. They may or may not keep the darker saddles. I would think in most cases the saddles turn white even on corals. However for some reason the ones with the darker saddles on the back do gain more color as they mature at least thats what Ive noticed. If that male was bred to say a female het albino I would expect 50% of the albinos around that to come out with significantly darker saddles than the "normal" albinos that will tend to fade more as an adult. Now I could be totally out of my mind or something and Im surely not the foremost authority on this subject but thats what Ive noticed. I also have pictures of a hold back that is a good example of this:

This female is from 2001 of course check out the tail my female het throws these Im guessing its genetic somehow who knows? Any how here is her baby picture notice the reddish saddles:

Now here is her current picture this "aint" no normal albino lol:
