Is it normal for beardies NOT to brumate?

JadeFox Apr 11, 2004 10:19 PM

I had mine 2 years-since she was the tinest baby. She has never brumated...ever. I do not want her to, frankly. I keep the environmental temps perfect throughout the year--90 degrees in the basking area, 85 degrees in other areas all thermostatically controlled. She has no idea how it feels to be cold and clueless what winter means.

I have no intentions of letting her breed. She is very healthy and very happy. Her energy and eating habits are all the same throughout the year. *NO* changes whatsoever.

Does anybody else have a beardie that never brumated? is it okay to not hibernate???

Thanks
JadeFox

Mine brumated without any heat changes, but I don't think it is required. Most poeple suggest a higher basking temp then 90 degrees tho, normally you want it over 100.

I had a male that never brumated in 8 years.

I agree your basking temps should be a bit higher, 105 would be minimum. If your BD doesnt want to get that hot she can move away, but give her the choice.
