First clutches of the year

Corey Woods Apr 11, 2004 10:38 PM

I've gotten my first Ball python eggs of the season. The first clutch was my largest clutch that I've ever had...........14 eggs! I couldn't believe it! These were laid on Tuesday from the father of the Red Axanthics bred to a normal. On average 1/2 will be Hets and 1/2 will be normals.

The second clutch was laid today. 8 eggs from my Red Axanthic bred to a normal. She's got a very nice pattern to her for a normal.

I thought I'd just throw in these last 2 pics. This is my gravid green ghost...........I'm not really sure what type of ghost she is. She could either be a green ghost or a very old Orange Ghost (she is over 14 years old). She was bred by my Super Pastel.

Last but not least a little Orange Ghost female. I hope to produce these this year (a couple clutches are on the way).

Enjoy,
Corey

Awesome! That ghost female ROCKS!

It is my understanding that the Red Axanthic bred to a normal girl will kick all Black Back (Red Axanthics)

A Black Back (Red Axanthic) bred to a normal female will kick 50% Black Back (Red Axanthics) and 50% normals.

This works just like the pastel and the super pastel....Co-Dom.

Corey.....is my thinking correct on this?

Jim,

You are almost correct. A Red Axanthic bred to a normal will produce all Het Red Axanthics (abbarent black backs). A Het Red Axanthic bred to a normal will produce 1/2 hets and 1/2 normals.

Red Axanthic

Het Red Axanthic with normals

I also thought Corey messed up and shorted himself but on re-reading I notice that it's the father of his red axanthics, so it's a het (black back) and not a red axanthic that fathered the big clutch. With a clutch that size he should still get plenty of hets.

How many red xanthics will you be producing this year? So many hets popping out but only four ever produced? Is it safe to say it is a genetic trait with so little breedings? Let's see some more! Females just not big enough this season? They are awesome, but I would like to see more results before I would consider purchasing one (and more cash in my pocket . The hets are some sweet blackbacks., and that alone can be a powerfull player in making some cool morphs. Keep up the good work! I always enjoy your pics, and look forward to your offspring this season. I would love to have one of your pastel het ghosts; However, this season I will most likely only be able to afford at most an orange ghost male and a het female.
Good luck this season!

I wish I knew how many Red Axanthics I'd produce this year.......it would make things a lot easier!..lol. I produced 2.0 Red Axanthics in 2001 and 0.2 Red Axanthics in 2002. Het x Het produce Red Axanthics, hets and normals. Het x normal produce 1/2 hets and 1/2 normals. Red Axanthic x normal produce all hets. This is definately a genetic trait. The mother of the Red Axanthics took last year off. This year she's been bred by my Red Axanthic male. She has follicles but hasn't ovulated yet. Hopefully she ovulates but I can't force them to do something they don't want to do.
