Wrinkled Tex Rat

Cuda Jun 13, 2003 06:58 PM

Hello all. I bought a Leucistic texas ratsnake back in november and she has been doing great, however recently she has developed wrinkles behind her head. It looks as if someone pinched her skin and it just stayed that was. Any ideas. BTW she is eating well and spending a lot of time in her water dish.

I've had this happen a couple of times with tree pythons. In my case, the snakes had gone into what can only be described as a quick blue phase. Their eyes never strongly clouded over but nonetheless a shed cycle was initiated. Their skin stuck to them like it was super-glued on and gave the snakes a 'pinched' look. I believe this is what you are witnessing. Try repeated soakings in slightly warm water for a few days or create a shed box using a plastic shoe box with a hole in the top filled with moist (not damp) sphagnum moss. Both methods worked for me.
