Edible Plants

chuuck Apr 12, 2004 01:07 AM

I just bought a new tall cage for my Iguana, does anyone know of a SAFE and EDIBLE TREE I could get? I would like to get some smaller edible plants as well. Help me out??

Here is a site address to Melissa Kaplan's edible plant list for iguanas. I hope it helps.

instead of using live pants i woulkd suggest geting some silk plants.. they look the same and you dont have to worry about them being edible because they wont be able to eat them.. not to mention if they are live they wont last long with an iguna climbing all over them.. and they are easy to clean off if they get soiled.

I wouldn't suggest the silk plants because on occasion larger iguanas can ingest them and that can cause major problems for obvious reasons. Below are two links that might help you out.

I decorate my iggys enclosure with the fake plants, but it took me a while before I actually decided to use them. I'd see enclosures all over with fake plants and they looked so nice and cozy, and my iggs cage looked so plain and simple so I decided to check them out. I chose the ones that were larger in size and that were hard to pull off or tear. My iggys never tried to eat them. I've gotten pretty lucky with all my iggys in a lot of ways so I'd listen for more opinions and see what everyone else has to say.
Here is a picture of the upper left side of the enclosure when I was adding the lower half to it.

Hey, I noticed stores clerks getting a little upset when I was pulling and tugging on their fake trees to see how durable that they were. Did you notice that? LOL

No one bothered me when I was tugging on the plants, but then again I was at WalMart. They don't really pay attention much there. I hope you weren't at your doctors office tugging on their plants.LOL. My vet had a nice fake tree that I wanted, but he wouldn't let me have it. I wasn't brave enough to pull on the leaves to see if they would come off.
