Questions about housing and courtship waving!

sederah86 Apr 12, 2004 04:29 AM

3 of my 4 turtles have been "fluttering" their little hands towards one another..sometimes they get a little too into it and begin to bite a little. The one receiving the fluttering seems scared and just closes her/his eyes. Why doesnt the recipient run away and not subject her/hisself to this?! I feel so bad...Is the biting safe? I havent seen any bite marks or injuries...so far...Someone please reassure me that this behavior is SAFE! and that I don't need to separate them..they've lived together for almost a decade. I just moved and was wondering if it was ok to put them in a kiddy pool inside my room. What do you guys think? There will be more space and stuff and I wanna get a new filter too. thanks

The fluttering is a mating ritual. My two males do it to each other all the time. Mine never bite each other tho. Kiddy pools are ok, although they aren't really deep enough. Most people just use them outdoors when the weather is nice. In my experience, they tend to crack after awhile, and you probably don't want one springing a leak in your bedroom.
