Brookesia/Rhampholeon or dart frogs?

eric adrignola Apr 12, 2004 09:54 AM

I'm "stable" in my chameleon hobby for now, not having the desire(room) for more, large species, except for the babies I hope to have...

I do have some space, and containers(a 37 and a 30 gallon long) that I want to "put to use" in a decorative sense, and have some fun with as well.

Who here keeps dart frogs, or pygmy chameleons?

I'm looking into the pluses and minuses of both, and I'm considering both.

If I were to go with dart frogs, I guess I'd go for a more elaborate, heavily planted setup.

Basically, I have 2 nice tanks I want to use, and I need a reason to keep fruit fly cultures alive for use with baby chameleons.

Anyone here breed B.decaryi?

Eric,

As you probably already know we keep Pygmies (& Breed) and we used to keep Dart Frogs (D.Tinctorius, D.Leucomelas, D.Azureus & D.Auratus. We Have bred R. Brevicaudatus, R.Temporalis, R.Spectrum, B.Decaryi, B.Theili and kept a few others. The Decaryi are an awesome species but did not breed super well compared to some of the other Pygmy species. The R.Brevicaudatus have proven to be one of the best breeders by far. Pictured is my wife's R. Brev tank. We have it set up pretty much like we did for our Darts and pretty much the way we do for all our Pygmies. She has a group of about 5.13 housed in there. If you have any questions I would be more than happy to answer them if I can.

The tank in the pictures that I set up for my wife is a 29 gallon tall tank. They love it and are thriving and going crazy in there. They have been breeding like mad lately as well.

I REALLY like the decaryis, the slower breeding wouldn't be a problem, as long as the adults are healthy. I am open, especially since they're a new "thing' for me, and I might just go for the brevs...

Do you know when you might get decrayis in, or who will? and about how much they usually go for?

I know the brevs are around $20-$20, I guess the decaryis are a bit more.

all those things get along in that tank? I bet that make sup for the few eggs the things lay...probably just have babies coming out of nowhere in that thing......actually, that sounds kinda fun. I'll email you back a few questions soon.

Thanks
E
