I've found a great bulb to help fix this problem. I use an elevated basking spot so Ra could get closer to the basking light. It reads about 135F. I was using an infrared heat light (Exo-Terra brand 100w) to maintain the hot end temp (100F). After it died, I bought another 100w infrared heat light (Philips brand) from Home Depot and am currently using that. At ground level, the spot directly beneath the bulb reaches 145F, thus creating an additional basking spot. Ra loves spending time on this spot and gets very active very quickly. In the morning, he sticks his head out of his hide and starts basking like that until his body temp warms up enough for him to crawl out and fully bask. The basking stack provides enough shade (90F in the shade) to act as smaller "cool end" areas within the hot end (he does still venture into the cool end of the tank).
I hope this helps
Here's a pic of the tank, the infrared lamp is the one on the left, just before the basking stack.
