Burms First Rabbit....more.

jtrott Apr 12, 2004 12:12 PM

Well I went to feed my male burm this week, he just shed. For all interested he is now 6'7". He has grown from 3 ft in November to 6'7" now(what a growth). Anyways, back to the post. I was going to give him a few large rats, but I wanted to see if he would eat a rabbit, just to see if he could do it. I thawed about about a 3-4 lbs rabbit for my retic, but I gave it to the burm instead. He had no problems taking it. I just laid it in his cage and he cruised around til he found the head. This just goes to show that not ALL switches from rats to rabbits are tough.

Also wanted to share that I picked up a proven pair on Saturday. I picked up a female albino green that just laid a few weeks ago and a double het male. I was planning on purchasing them in about a month, but due to some unforseen circumstances, they had to be moved a month early. Thanks Jim and Eric if you are reading this.

Who did you purchase it from? was it a known, reptudable, and trusted breeder? Why would a breeder sell "proven breeders"? albino greens go for like $300. Even if you get 25 babies that is $7500 in ONE year. Any peson selling "proven" breeders are probably cheating you, because you wouldn't pay $7500 for a single snake would you? also how do you know it is "proven"?

not meaning to be rude or anything but i personally think it is a load of crap when someone sells "proven" breeder animals.

The guy I got the pair from is getting outta greens and moving onto labys. She laid 21 infertile eggs 3 weeks ago, it was her first clutch. She is about 20-30 lbs underweight because of it. The male is proven and bred 3 females this year and is still looking for more. I know it sounds too good to be true. I bought a cage unit from a buddy of his in the Dallas area last weekend and I went up on Saturday to pick up this pair. They are gorgeous. I will post pics as soon as I can, and I was mistaken. I paid $350 for them.

ok. Just making sure. Because there are people who will cheat you with "proven" breeders who are infertile or sterile. Was that 21 egg clutch her first?

Yes it was. She laid, I believe, he said 35 eggs. 21 fertile 14 not. I am trying to get her ready to go again next year. I am hoping for at least 40 from her next year.

still can't imagine a snake laying 40 eggs (used to GIANT clutches of BP eggs being 10)
