I am building a cage and I'm wondering about the water bowl. Do you think a 6 1/2" deep x 3'5" long is a big enough water bowl for a green and a yellow anaconda(from small to big)?
Thanks,
Ben

You didn't list the sizes of the snakes. Therefore it would be impossible to say if that size bowl is adequate. I will say that the dish you described is bigger than the one I use for my 9' green. I also wonder how long it'll be before you look in your cage and find one large snake? I'm of the opinion that all snakes should be housed separately. Espcially ones with reptile eating tendancies. There are other considerations too. If one reptile becomes ill chances are, by the time you notice it, the other snake(s) will have become afflicted too. I do hope you at least feed them separately. Just my opinion.

i agree with everything arik just said...i think my green anaconda would love a nice little yellow for a snack. and i have said this before in here...you would be very surprised at how close snakes can be in size and still end up eating one another. i think for any answer to your question you need to post info about the ages and sizes of both snakes..the size of the cage and how you have it set up.
My Green is 2 months old now, she isn't with a yellow yet. But both would be babies when they are put together. The enclosure they are going to be in is an 8'x2'6"x2'. I know anacondas are snake eaters, but even if you wanted to breed two green anacondas, there is still the chance that one will eat the other... I know the snake gets big and that's why I was wondering on the waterbowl, so I can get a big enough waterbowl for it when it is big, because I want to put the waterbowl inside the floor of the cage so I don't just have a huge waterbowl sitting in there..
Thanks,
Ben
your water bowl is fine ..but it will not be once the snake is an adult. unless you are just usuing it for a drinking dish(whcih isnt a bad idea since we are finding more and more how that much water is not needed for anacondas in captivity. i would not house a baby yellow with a baby green...a baby green can deffinitely eat a baby yellow and the green will get bigger faster and a female green will just crush a yellow of either sex. even when breeding you run the risk but at that time, they have sex on the mind and will ignor a lot of food. A female green will not be looking to mate with a little yellow, all the hybrids i know of are male green to female yellow. why spend money on a snake and then run a huge risk of it being eaten when a cage for a yellow by itself will not be too costly? for the record, my green has eaten garter snakes of different sizes (dont ask why..long story).
Hi Ben, I think that the tub you have is too shallow. You probably have heard of the cement mixing tubs right? Well there are two sizes small and large, the large one would be good for a single snake. I dont realy know if the anaconda NEEDS a large water basin or not but I like to have one in there because mine realy enjoys it. A good swim sounds better than just sitting on a heat pad all day doesnt it?? As far as housing the two snakes together the others have touched on that pretty good. I also dont recomend it, but I cant stop you I can only give my 2 cents worth. ---Eric---
