turtle eating habits

grimreapar87 Jun 13, 2003 07:39 PM

i was wondering what foods were calcium rich for RES?
I am planning to raise a guppy colony to feed to my RES, but i was wondering if there is a certain maturity the turtles must meet before they can eat guppies? also, are duckweed and elodia plants good enough to feed them?
also, one of my turtles is not eating at all, but the other is. i was wondering how i could get the anorexic one to eat?
also, the one that IS eating well bit the one that isnt while it was sleeping. why?

you may have to feed them separately to make sure that they are both getting adequate food. Also, you may want to make the temp a bit warmer to stimulate their appetites. What is the temp of their water?

For calcium I use cuttle bone. It's a great source of calcium and you don't have to worry about additional supplements.

I use reptical pellets as their primary food and also give them anachris, romaine, grapes, and carrots.

what form does the cuttle bone come in? will i have to crush it so that they can eat it? where can i find it?

oh, I probably should have told you that lol. You can buy cuttlebone at petco, petsmart, or any other petstore that sells bird supplies. you have to make sure you chip off the shell before you feed it to them. take a knife and chip it off and then just break it up. I usually break it up into a size of a quarter and feed it to them a couple of times a week.

If you have any other questions don't hestitate to ask.
