False Bottoms / Floor Drain

Icarus Apr 12, 2004 04:22 PM

Okay, I've been dwelling on this topic for far too long and still cannot work out the logistics.

1) What exactly is a false bottom?
From what I've seen, you take plastic eggcrate, layered with gravel above, then the soil, etc... Right?

2) How would you go about proper drainage?
This is the tricky part. I've considered placing a valve in the back... but I'm not really sure how that would work. I mean - wouldn't the base have to be angled inwards towards the drain so that the water is driven towards it? This may be a silly question, but I can't figure this last part out. A flat bottom would just allow the water to sit and collect... no?
