What's with all the new Venomoid BUTCHER'S lately?

Shane Mader Apr 12, 2004 05:22 PM

I'm a hobbyist who likes to breed a few things and I like to look at the classifieds to check out the deals. Lately however I've noticed an abundance of newly hacked up snakes for sale. One clown even cut up a tree viper!! Seriously,if you are incapable of dealing with certain snakes chose another one that better suits your experience.
I'm just venting here but I feel that these people doing these backyard surgery's should not be allowed to advertise in the same classified section as those of us who have respect for these snakes.
These people are clearly just in it to make some money and we all know the type of "winner's" that buy these snakes.
p.s. "SURGERY" is spelled like this

Yeah, there are a few new sellers but most of the surgeries are done by the same two unlicensed, unqualified people.....
It is a real shame that it has gotten to the level it has.....
There is actually someone trying to pass off wild caught rhino vipers that had a hack job done on them as Captive born and bred rhinos that had the surgery done "professionally"...... How rediculous.... The sad thing is that there are actually people out there that will fall for this.....
I really feel sorry for the snakes for what they must go through so some reject can play with a venomous snake..... The good news is, is there are actually a few sites with classified ads that will not allow the sale of voids on the site..... Also there are a bunch of laws being broken by most of these people doing the surgeries from animal cruelty, practicing vetinarian medicine and procedures without a license, to the method of shipping these snakes to the buyers.... Hopefully there will be some action taken against these law breakers....

It's a sad state of affairs. It's a shame to see so many of these beautiful animals being injured by greedy back alley butchers. It's only a matter of time before some of these shady characters get busted for their illegal practices. Most of the time these people can't even spell common words let alone species names. There is nothing I hate more than ignorance.

I feel that at the VERY LEAST proper documentation from a qualified DVM should be required in order for venomoids to be sold. I wouldn't agree with these practices any more than I do now, but at least it would be a step in the right direction.

If said documentations were required we would probably see a sharp decline in the sale of venomoids all together (as they are almost exclusively done by the aforementioned butchers).
