My Babies are sick!

Becki71 Apr 12, 2004 09:13 PM

Well I took Sam and Ella to the vet today. Ella has parasites which they treated her for. They treated Sam for parasites also...just in case I guess. And Sam also has something going on in his lungs. They took xrays and her lungs look okay but his doesn't. Unfortunately this doctor is not a reptile specialist (none in my town) so she is limited on what she can do. She gave him a shot of Baytril and then gave me four shots that I am supposed to give to him every two days. Has anyone else gone through this and does this sound okay to you? I have no clue. I'm hoping that this medicine will work and he will get better...if not I guess I will have to take him to a specialist. They told me there is one in Davis but that is so far away. Does anyone know where I can find a good doctor in the Santa Rosa area? Thanks!

Forgot to ask you, what kind of parasites are they being treated for? I was wondering because often, depending on the type of parasites, treatment consists of more than one dose of medicine, and you didn't say whether you would be giving them another dose, taking them back in, or whatever. Do you know what the vet treated them with?

Oh man...my mind went completely blank! I think she said pinworms. She said we probably want to take them back in about two weeks and do it again. I'm not sure what she treated them with. She had to put a tube in there mouth and put some kind of white medicine in them. Hopefully this dose will take care of it and she won't have to do it again. She had a heck of a time grabbing there little heads and getting there mouths open without hurting them. They are still so small.

Becki, I have a great vet here in Palo Alto that specializes in tortoise's called Wildwood. But I know that in Berkeley there is also a top notch vet. Call the East Bay Vivarium in Berkeley and ask them or email me directly at terrygar@hotmail.com and I'll find out.

Thank you so much Terry! I might have one guy I can take them too here in town but if not Sohni lives close by and knows of a vet that deals with tortoises. But if that doesn't work out I will definitly be emailing you! I appreciate all of your help. You guys are just amazing. It is so nice to know that we are not alone out here.
