how far away should i place this from my cage and is it ok for the cham to be looking directly at it from 3-5 inches away?

I have mine as close as possible the UVB does not penetrate far from the bulb. Farther than 1 foot away and it starts to lose effectiveness. It's a very safe light for reptiles.

I use the 5.0's and have found it most effective to just set them Right on top of my cages my chameeons love to climb the screen and get themselves hanging upside down right under the bulb. at first this scared me but they just keep going back up there and its never hurt them yet.Infact I think it honestly makes them grow faster. Bottmom line it's probaly one of the best things you could do for your cham short of just putting him out in the sun.
