Hello Everyone (I am the new kid on the block)

alphadragon Apr 12, 2004 09:35 PM

Hello Everyone,
I am a relatively new guy to the beardie world. I have always been into Reptiles but took a hiatus from them while I was finishing up school. Funny thing is that I think I am going back to School but all 4.6 of them will have to come!

I wanted to ask anyone if they have had a problem when switching their animals to shelf liner or any new substrate. The problem is that my Beardies have not passed a bowel movement in their tanks since I moved them to Shelf Liner two days ago. I took them out yesterday and put them in some warm water and let them do their thing, but they wont do it in their tank. I cannot put a thing of sand in there b/c I want to control their environment as best as possible while they are being treated for Coccidia and pinworms. Any suggestions will be appreciated!!
Thanks,
Randy

I had no problems when switching my dragons over to shelf liner. I think things will settle back down and they will become "regular" again after they have finished with their meds, etc. A lot of times dragons get irregular with their poops when being medicated.

I wouldn't worry.

Maybe they think the shelfliner is too nice to poop on!!
It's actually a good thing if you are battling parasites, considering when they poop, they leave the parasites behind and can reinfect the dragon.

If they pooped in the bath, there's nothing to be concerned about as far as impaction.

When your dragons do pick a place to poop, put a pc. of paper towel in that spot and viola'....potty trained dragons.
Good Luck

I didn't want to lead anybody astray my Dragons are really big and healthy, it is just a kind of maintainence thing. Me being a Microbiologist and my Girlfriend being a Neonatal ICU nurse we just want to get everybody on the same playing field before we mix and match them. If you know what I mean.

Thanks again,
Randy
