egg mold

toppy Jun 13, 2003 08:47 PM

My female honduran layed 5 eggs last saturday and now I've got some patches of mold growing on the three that are together(stuck together)the ones I thought were good . the two that are separate never seemed to harden up and are still rubbery. all of the eggs have a yellow color to them, two of them are whiter than the others , what is a good way to tell if some of these are bad? will they collapse or stink, should I post a picture of them or candle them ( I hate to pick them up not knowing how healthy they are) I think even though Its my females first clutch maybe I'll try to double clutch her because these eggs dont seem to be doing so good. She's 3 years old and about 43" long and a quarter size in diameter. any thoughts from you experts?
Thanks chris
I guess I'll try to post a recent picture sometime tommarow.
It's a bummer after all this waiting, do many snakes have infertile clutches their first time?

Hey thanks for writing back, I tried to candle them once but I only see opaque, (meaning the same off white color all the way through). The eggs surface has some brown color areas and those are hard to see through. So I guess my attempt at candling was inconclusive at best or showing that they were bad if I should be seeing something else.
Thanks Chris

Here's a pic you can see the mold between the three eggd that are together there color is still somewhat white compared to the other two but I cannot see anything in them.

The two lone eggs are bad. The smaller one in the clump maybe bad but don't give up on it. Get some antifungal foot powder and using a Qtip dust the mold on the clumped eggs. Don't attempt to separate the clumped eggs. It might be a good idea to open your box for a couple of minutes every day, to give a good air exchange.
