Severe T-Storms and 2 runaway iggies (long)

Georgia Jun 13, 2003 09:04 PM

We have had severe thunder storms all day today (tx) and at about 4:30 (central), I walked into my iggies' room to find no iggies. There is a small hole ripped into the screen, providing a clean escape. I really don't know how to cope. How will they survive through the night? Will they survive through the night? Will they know not to go into the streets? Will people be cautious to a strange lizard walking through the street and avoid it? I have question after question, and the only image I gave in my head is one of them, if not both getting run over, and them suffering to death. I will be posting signs around my neighborhood tomorrow. I can only pray, and I wish for prayers from all of you. Please help me get through this as simply as possible.

Thanks for sitting through this post, and please pray for my babies. Hopefully I can get them back soon.

Love to each of you
Georgia

Oh no!! That sounds awfully nervewracking. :-/ I hope you find them safe and sound, and VERY soon. Best of luck to you and the iguanas.

The thunder storm scared them.

PLEASE PLEASE call your local Animal Control and SPCA or Humane Society and report them lost. Post an add or put flyer up. Almost all loose iguanas are intentionally released. Animal Control will consider them strays without a home and put them down. Iguanas have been known to come home.

Cindy, i have already reported them to the Humane Society, as well as made numerous copies of flyers which i have hand delivered to house after house in my neighborhood. I don't actually know if it was the storm that scared them. I last checked on them at about 1:30 and when i went in at 4:30 to close their window, they were gone. i don't know when they actually got out, but the storm came at about 4:45. I've searched every street in my neighborhood, but no luck at all so far. hopefully, they will return soon!!!
thanks though.

Did you ever find your guys? It's probably too late now, but the first place I would have looked would have been the trees around your property. Iguanas usually instinctively look for the highest place in a new environment.

Good luck, I hope you find them. My iguana, Buddy, was a stray that my neighbor found. So, there is a chance someone will find one or both of them and at least give them a good home (hopefully they'll call the humane society first!!).
