Heating suggestions

vpc Apr 13, 2004 12:52 PM

Hi, I have always been a fan of heat lamps until now. I require to stack my cages now which negates the use of the top for exterior heat lamps.

Can people post (in detail) their heating solution for their Tegus? My Tegus are all adults in 72"L X 30"W X 24"H cages with 6 inches of mulch in the bottom. I would like a viable heating solution along with a UVB solution that will be safe for my animals inside their cages. Thanks

Yeah, I see your prob, 24 in isn't very high to be putting the bulbs in the tank, you could try ceramic cockets mounted horizantally near the top of the tank, make sure ya put some tin foil folded several times above the bulbs or the (assuming it's a plywood roof) will get ultra hot, fire or even just smoke risk. Construct a metal screen(like chicken wire, but with smaller holes) to cover bulbs so tegu can't come in contact with them. As for the UVB bulb, hummm, ya might have to switch to tubes and do the same, cover with screen so not to burn tegu. Just a few ideas, hope I helped some.
