Good day for herping at my house!

I live in Mississippi, out in the country, and the snakes are really active right now. Today I saw a huge black rat snake out behind my house, but couldn't catch him. Then I went to our chicken pen and spotted a beautiful speckled king. I picked him up and he was the most docile wild snake I've ever caught. He was about 3 1/2 feet and I kept him several hours before letting him go (in the spot I caught him of course). I expect I'll be seeing alot more of him. I would have loved to keep him, as I already have a ball python and a rat snake. But I don't like keeping wild caught animals. So yeah, I'll just pay 50 bucks for a captive bred king that prolly wont be half as pretty as this one lol....Cath yall later.

Sounds sweet.

What part of Mississippi do you live in? I live in West Mobile, AL. I go out on the roads and i find myself in lower Mississippi within about 15 minutes of driving. I havent had much luck finding anything on the roads lately though, not even DOA's. I am new to the area, so dont know any real good spots to go that arent someone's private property, you know? So basically the road warrior thing is about all i can do for now. Wish i had a backyard like yours though! LOL

Hey...I live right outside of Tupelo...There's snakes everywhere up here right now. I picked up a speckled king today, thinking it was the same one I've been catching lately, and it struck at my face. I then realized this was a smaller, much more aggressive snake lol. But he calmed down after a couple of minutes and was actually quite docile...Hope you have better luck soon!
