why are prices riseing so quickly?

chamsrcool Apr 13, 2004 06:52 PM

last year i could buy (healthy) jacksons at three for $90 shipped now im lucky to get one that price without shipping.

i remember seeing veileds for about $20 now weither they were quality i cant say.

but i think panthers have gone down a bit

anyways why are the prices of jacksons and veileds going up?
Does anyone know a place i can get either (preferable young)for less that $60 shipped?
HOw about are ther any breeders of any type of chameleon near fort wayne INDIANA? (within 3 hours)

I think that jackson's and Veiled's prices have gone up becuase there has been alot of qualitie breeders being bron lately. I remember there used to be barely any. But now i see so many. But as to panther's i havn't really noticed any decrease in price.

Wouldnt prices DROP because of an overabundance of "qualities breeders being bron"? Seems to me that prices are rising because of a LACK of product being available in certain areas of the country.

Jacksons on the west coast seem the same to me as they were when I moved from there in Sept. Prices on the East Coast (where I now live) are ridiculous. I saw a sub-adult male jacksons a my Local Pet Store for $169.99!! I almost soiled my pants at the price. I immediately thougt: " if I sell my 6 baby jacksons to this pet store for even 140, I make out like a bandit!".

But..I wont do that..They don't know enough about chams to keep them in screen cages. I mentioned it to the owner (I buy all my saltwater stock from this store) and he said he would take care of it. Next day, the cham was gone...someone bought it...and I bet it now lives in a 10gal aquarium somewhere.

Anyway....I think prices fluctuate due to demand and availability....

when I was selling at Kobey's. I had very nice adults for about $60 I think. Can't quite remember the price. But $169 for a sub-adult male??!! Oh well.
I didn't know veileds were going up in price! Heck, I would've held out for more $ when I sold that 10 lot just recently! (hehehe) Supply and demand I guess. I'm still getting the same low price on my baby veileds as I always have. Guess there's an abundance of baby veileds in my neck of the woods. Baby bearded dragons on the other hand seem to always demand higher prices and outsell my chameleons!

When I got my 2 veileds (about 5 months apart though) They were both roughly $39 a piece. I was in the same store the other weekend and saw they had a few babies (I havent seen any there for about a year now though) And the babies were now $69 and smaller then my two guys when I bought them.
We live in a small town but still, a price raise like that was kind of strange. Maybe there has just been a shortage of suppliers to petsores, such as more people are selling to specific owners instead of going through the stores.

*shrug* Oh well! Happy Tax day everyone! *grin*

You did have a very fair price on Jacksons...and very nice looking chams too. Although your price on a Sulcata and a Hingeback was even better! <g>

Tell your daughter that Poopie now has a boyfriend named George and she is very happy. Tell her Speedy is doing well too (she named them for us).

Beardies here in Philly run around 40 bucks to 80 bucks a piece (I just picked up a pair of Tangerines from the Pottstown Herp show). I think thats cheaper than the west coast....weird huh?
