just bought a flourscent bulb from home depot called natural sunshine please read

it says that it contains mercury thats why i bought it, its a philips bulb and the name is natural sunshine and it contains mercury does that give off uvb and uva rays ?thats the only reason i bought it because i saw that it contains mercury, anybody with some info it would be greatly appreciated, i remember doug from deerfernfamrs telling me about this bulb being better then the ones they sell at the petshops and stuff

all flourescents contain mercury vapor. That is how they give off light. It does not give off UVB, but maybe UVA. Flourescent lights work by the mercury vapor then it lets of invisible light (UVB/UVA) then it hit the flourescent powder coating and the UVB/UVA is converted into visible light.

I think you maybe misread what Doug Dix was referring to. Here is a quote from the web page :. He's talking about mercury UVH lights...NOT some natural sun type from home depot. And even so, he still feels it isn't that much different than reptisun 5.0 as far as how long it lasts and is even more expensive than the reptisun.

I personally prefer to stick with my reptisun 5.0 and zoo med basking bulb. so far my uros have thrived on that as well as others I have nursed back to health.
