Birdseed is okay for uro´s. They like lentils, peas, etc too. But also offer them fresh greens etc.

When you say "lentils", I think of hard, rice-like grains. Is that what you're talking about? Do you cook it to soften it up or feed it to them dry?

This are lentils...

And they also like the red lentil.

I do not cook them. They eat them "the hard way".

like to feed mine the lentils and also the split peas. 2 of my uros are adults so they eat them dry. however, my little ones I do not offer them just yet but if i do, they will be ground first or cooking and cut very small. Just depends on how big yours is.

I feed them wild birdseed mix but I also add alfalfa pellets dried split peas lentils and chick feed. The dry food makes up a third of their diet. The rest is all leafy greens, chopped veggies and much less often a cricket or two.

I use the millet for substrate, so I hear them munch on it. I also have a dish of lentils, split green peas, split yellow peas, bee pollen and juvenile iguana pellets in a small dish at all times. They all seem to like it. This is of course in addition to their fresh salad which is served daily.
