I was wondering if anyone has or dose use a layer of charcoal inbetween the substrate and the drainage layer in their terrariums?

i don't. you don't need it for your vivarium.
The problem with using charcoal is once is absorbs whatever the target waste or chemical - then it is "loaded" and not easily removed from the substrate. It is better to build a complete waste cycle using plants whose roots utilize organic wastes in the substrate for growth. You can then prune excess plant growth and remove waste in that fashion.
