NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, i just realized tonight something terrible happened to my adult female phantasticus, the mother of the 3 babies. last night i saw that she was hanging from a branch, and her vent looked swollen. i truly doubted these things could change sex, but it was swollen to the point it looked like the hemipenal bulge of males. well today after i had time after i got out of class, i tried picking her up to take a look at her, and i was saddened to see it seems she has lost use of her hind legs, and cant seem to control her tail either as it seemed to hang onto branches as she tried to move herself along. i am extremely scared im gonna get bad news when i take her to the vet first thing tomorrow morning. im gonna try to get some pictures and follow up so i can hopefully help anyone else out who is so unfortunate to have their phantasticus fall ill. keep her in your prayers!

back there, and she will be okay, Shes in my critter prayers tonight.

Hope all turns out well. Please let us know when you find out !

I know the swollen vents, in other lizards such as collareds, usually are indicative of infection!

Lets hope it can be quickly healed if so !

well, i took her to the exotic vet this morning, just called them back and got the bad news. the vet figures that its either bone trauma or some type of cholesterol deposition. i have the choice now to do a $50 x-ray, which would give an idea as to whether there is bone trauma or not, but even if that is the case, there is almost nothing they can do for her and they recommend euthanizing her. such bad news about the mother of three beautiful babies. i think what im gonna do is bring her home and put her back in her tank, since she is so small and there is almost nothing the vet can do for her. ill keep my fingers crossed that she will miraculously get better, but i have a feeling there will be a funeral soon.

thanks for the support guys. its real sad the the future looks so grim, but i brought her home, and im keeping a close eye on her, praying for a miracle. shes still got energy and all, enough to actually drag herself up branches, but if she starts lookin real bad i might have to decide to euthanize her. anyone know if the vet normally charges to euthanize such an animal? i hope it doesnt sound sick, but i plan on keeping her preserved if/when she dies, in hopes that if the problem comes up again that she can be of some help, or if anything else i will donate her to the herpetology teacher at my school.

definately log her progress (or decline, lets hope this isnt the case) so if by chance any of us experience something similar you can let us know exaclty what your little girl went through... ie... signs, symptoms, ect... I wish the best for her...
