Vari-flow valves for mice

RL Apr 13, 2004 09:46 PM

I am building a new mouse rack and I'm using the Edstrom Vari-flow water valves and I was wondering will I have to adjust them or will they work right out of the package. this is a grow out rack so all the mice will be weanlings to adult.

Hello, I use vari-flows and have for about four years. They are great for adults, but not so good for raiseups.

The good part about vari-flows is, they can be adjusted to limit flooding. But with raiseups, you need to have them "loose" which are prone to flooding.

So, I use water bottles for my raiseups. On my new rack, going in to service tomorrow, I will have both vari-flows and a water bottle for each tub. Good luck FR

I have a bunch of vari flow valves. I adjust them to the flow that I like when I 1st put them in, and I test to make sure that they still work when I clean. I've never needed to adjust them afterwards, but I always check them.

Don't just trust them out of the bag. Yes, they will work, but it's not like they are calibrated when assembled. I crank them down, and then back off a slight bit. Keep the flow low. Even when barely flowing, they are extremely easy to operate, and the youngest of weanlings has had no problem drinking from them.
