The Real World San Diego

thechamhunter Apr 14, 2004 01:18 AM

For anyone who watches the Real World amd the current San Diego series, you might recall seeing them go to a reptile store a couple episodes ago and buy a burmese python. Well, I go this store,(Pet Kingdom), all the time and probably will eventually work there eventhough I should of already got a job there years ago. The roomates also buy 2 more burmese pythons. I think one is albino. Anyways, they might show a little more of the reptile store which makes me happy that my local reptile store that I go to all the time is getting national attention.

Pet Kingdom has REALLY improved recently, getting rid of a LOT of dead weight and re-vamping the store. Although they had some good general knowledge about herps, their knowledge on chameleons was lacking. I won't get into details about some of the things I have witnessed, hopefully all that is in the past and they have moved on.
Their knowledge on chameleons is still somewhat lacking (meaning take their care instructions with a grain of salt), but at least they're keeping the chameleons in good health.

Sad thing is they dumped a live mouse in the bag with the snake to eat meaning they didn't get info on how to feed or they ignored it.
Oh well 3 more snakes waiting to die or be adopted out..
On a good note, glad to see a pet store on t.v.

Yeah. They lack on cleaning cages and keeping the animals healthy but I think they don't have the time and/or the funding to clean every cage every few weeks. They have definately revamped the store. They sold that huge croc monitor and tore down that huge chameleon enclosure. Its funny, Jusmebabe, that you say they put the snake in with the mouse in the bag so to speak because the last time I was there they did exactly that. They are pretty knowledgable about snakes but the way they have the chameleons set up is pretty poor. That's why I want to get a job there because I know I can help out with the chameleons. And I also know everyone who works there. The thing is, is that all the reptile people who work there start at minimum wage and it kind of sucks for the amount of reptile knowledge that customers expect you to have if you know what I mean.

Personally, if you choose to work retail..especially when it comes to animal retail stores, you should do it for the love of the animals and not because of what you can make. If you want to make money, go work elsewhere.

yes, we expect the retail outlets to have more info on the animals they are selling than we do, but the reality is that it hardly ever happens.
