Question for Homeowners.......

Pandorasbox Apr 14, 2004 06:38 AM

I just bought a home and obviously I had to get homeowners insurance. Well yesterday I received a notice from my homeowners that I was dropped from my poilcy. The reason they stated was because "I had Pythons that cause undo risk and harm.....ect" and they can not insure the risk.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is so what did you do? Please explain your situations?

Thanks

Unless you have thousands of dollors in snakes that you for some reason want to be insured under your home coverage. Most won't cover them or will charge you an arm and a leg. My advice which is a little late for you is Don't tell anyone you have snakes in your home. This includes your neighbors. Goodluck

Yep, we made the mistake of asking about insurance for the reptiles when I had a rather large collection. We were dropped by one company, and could only get insurance from another if we paid a rider (I think it was an extra $1000.00 a year). It wasn't so bad when i was producing lots of ababies. I only keep a small collection now and don't do it as a business. We've managed to get them to remove the rider.

I'm compiling a list, and maybe if we get enough interest, we can try to get all the insurance companies to end this crap.

After all, they will insure homeowner's *gun collections*! I've already asked around and know several people who have large gun collections, with semi-autos and everything, and the insurance companies covered their collections in their general homeowner's policies. But not herps? C'mon. It's a perfectly legal hobby.

If you don't want to post it here, email me at naddred$@hotmail.com (remove the $ sign) and put reptile in the subject.

Thanks,

Lisa
