new enclosure, for a newbie bearded owner.

jaydaddy_26 Apr 14, 2004 08:12 AM

I just built a new enclosure yesterday!I had max in a 55 gallon tank( my BP).It was fine , But I recently got a bearded dragon, and two big aquariums would be to much. Just thought I would show you guys and see what you thought. It is a total of 4x4x2 ft total, with each one having approximately 20"x4ftx2ft of there own space....all heating lights and pads are installed.
It holds humidity for max a little better than the glass tank, and I have a water hid for him too.temps are also optimum with 92 basking temp on hot side, and ambients of 88 on hot and 82 on cool. that was max. The Bearded , his name is Diesel, has a basking temp of 97, ambients of 94 and 88, with humidity of around forty percent. How did I do? More pics in my gallery.

Looks good, but........

How old is Diesel? If he is a youngster, the basking temp should be about 105 - 115. Adults like it around 100 - 105.

Looks like it could be a bit brighter in there too. Beardies like it nice and bright! It may be the picture quality not showing the brightness though. Do you have a strip light in there at all?

the enclosure on the top is for my ball python the one on the bottom is for my bearded... it is plenty bright enugh in there so it must just be the picture.he is about six months old so I brought basking to 100 degrees...I am also going to be getting more branches for him to climb on. any other suggestions.

Are the cages made out of particle board? Have you painted or stained the wood? That stuff will warp and be wrecked in no time, especiall if fecal matter is absorbed into the wood. I am not sure about that material off gassing, but that could be an issue as well.
