Collecting Snakes in Missouri

theMAC Apr 14, 2004 08:24 AM

I'm in texas and I have a large family farm in SE MO.
I'm scanning this forum and I see a "state-by-state" listing with no link for MO and I see a thread about keeping-exotics in MO that says "contact your local authorities".
SO I goggled and googled and all I get is the dept of conservation with a nice link to a guide to "snakes of missouri"
Hunting and fishing is well documented but I see NO listing anywhere for regs on collecting native wildlife (in TX these things are listed as "non-game" and there are plenty of lists and laws and regs that change every year which several sites work hard to keep updated).

Anyone have an idea where I can find the regs for collecting in MO?

I have emails in to the state office and a couple MO herp societies (none of which have ANY regs posted on their sites)

I don't know about colubrids, but I can tell you that no one in the public arena is allowed to collect hot snakes in MO.

Good luck, the MDC should be able to help.

There are NO provisions to collect LEGALLY reptiles from a non-resident what so ever. If you show as a Mo. resident, you can collect up to 5 species. This doesn't involve a permit or anything but I think you need a general hunting lic. now and a hunters safty course ( dumb ) if you are within the age of requirements to do so ( I never did because of my birth date of 1949 ). I could be wrong on the hunter lic. I'm sure someone else will chime in here on this last part.
