RogerL Jun 13, 2003 11:02 PM

hi all. today i got a red-tailed boa. she is about 3 feet long, and looks very healthy. is there anything in particular i should know about this species? i have a ball pythin, so most of my snake knowledge is based off of its care. what are the differences? how big will the red-tailed get? thanks in advance.

You should have asked these questions before buying the animal, but anyway shell get 7-10ft, 35-60lbs, make sure she has a basking spot reaching 95 or so and a cool side in the cage around 80, night and day cycles with what ever is going on outside and thats about it, that I can think of anyway, best of luck

you're right, but i didnt buy it, and didnt really expect to get it. i work at a pet store, and a customer brought the snake in wanting to get rid of it. we had no room for it at the store, so we had to turn it away. the guy was going to bring it to the humane society, and i didnt see much of a chance for this beautiful snake to ever find a good home, so i offered to take it. i have it in a 55 gallon tank right now, with reptibark as a substrate, water dishes etc. and i have the temp about where you said would be good. what are acceptable nightime temps? are these particularly mean or aggressive snakes? so far she is very calm and peaceful, and doesnt mind being handled. will the tail ever actually become red?

The care of your boa is a little different than your python. Heres a caresheet that will give you some insight as to it's needs!
