Disturbed....

Jananicole66 Apr 14, 2004 06:41 PM

I just thought I'd share something that disturbed me a few minutes ago...
I was "googling" checking out some other leopard gecko forums.. and the first one i went to, there was a message from someone saying their leo hasnt been eating the last couple months, that much, is half the weight they were when they got them etc.. the leo was housed with others, but the person had put them in a different cage once they noticed things were wrong..
Now this isnt what disturbed me, it was the reply by someone, who had, perhaps coincidentally, the same name as the person who owned the leo forum... they said "you need to take the initiative and kill the leo now. You have to kill it or it will infect the other leos and they will all get sick."
This is all he said... no mention of going to a vet, obviously didnt notice that the person had quarantined it.. just said for the person to kill it.. themselves... I was appalled... I mean, is this a common thought??? it just makes me mad that people still think of small animals as not worthy of time and money, and that killing it would be the best solution.. I posted that they should take it to the vet, as it may be easily cured by some meds.... like.. isnt this the first thing that would pop into your minds???
Anyways, i just had to rant.. if this is the kind of advice people think is acceptable, its no wonder small reptiles and animals are seen as something thats not a "real" pet.

omg.....what is wrong w/ people??...first of all if my little didnt eat for even a week I'd be seeing a vet about it....let alone a whole month or two....why get the pet if your not welling to care for it???...And anyone advising someone to kill an innocent animal before they even know whats wrong w/ it...is just messed up...I'm glad you posted what you did good for you.

well to each his own, but that is stupid! I have killed babys before that I knew were not going to make it due to the fact of birth defects or other severe problems, but to post something like that is really immature and careless. I don't have a tremendous amount of feeling for animals. I grew up eating most of these cute little animals people try to protect... LOL. I love my leos, my beardie,my cresteds,my corn and my bci don't get me wrong. To post something like that is really in a way tampering with somebody's possesions. If that person would be so worried about the situation they very well could do such a thing. Heck, what if the idiot told them they better kill all the geckos or something. People are gullable at times of strife and need. All should think of this when posting something that people are going to read. You brought a very good subject up here. I would have liked to see them post something like that on here I bet they would think twice. lol.

-ignorance is not to be punished when one is trying to gain knowledge...what scares me is the vast number of people who, when given the information to gain knowledge, choose to ignore it.

I met somebody a little while ago at the shop where i buy crix. The guy was showing pics to the clerk and having a good laugh at it. I join the conversation by curiosity...The guy was showing pics of his FREEZED lizards ! That guy often buy lizards without knowing really well how to care for them and when they are in too bad shape or simply tired or caring for them, he put them in his freezer....I just dont know what to say....all i find was "your crazy..." What can we say to uncaring people like that ? Nothing that i can say will make him suddenly care....
