Good Mercury Vapor Bulbs to use

petabm Apr 14, 2004 07:28 PM

Doe anyone have any information on good mercury vapor bulbs(self ballasted) to use? Ones that give off sufficient UVB for reptiles but are not very expensive. There are several out there that I have looked in to that vary in prices from $20 up to $50 and up. What is the idfference between. The lower cost companies say they are just as good but I dont know what adequate amounts of UVB they produce and if it is enough since they vary so much. I am looking for some that also come in 75 watt for smaller enclosures but have yet to find them(but i have found 100 watt that put out low UVB). Does anyone have any suggestions on which ar good at low cost, lasta long time and produce sufficient UVB? Any ideas on where to get them and proper info on the use of them and which ones are good. As much info as possible would be great. If you have too much info let me know and I will give my email address. Thanks

this is a post from a while back about the readings from multiple MV bulbs on the market, think it may be what you're looking for

Thanks fro the info. Do you have any that you personally recomend that are not very expensive? I have used ZooMed and rather not again. Ive looked into Solar Brite (by AAA Reptile supply) and Capture the Sun (by Big Apple Herps) becuase they are less expensive? Do you have any recomendations? Im looking for some that will also be suitable for smaller enclosures and others for my larger enclosure. Any recomendations would be great.
