Potential TRUE F2 Sulcata...and some questions...

Matt J Apr 14, 2004 08:19 PM

Hey all,

Well, I allowed it to happen... against my better judgement... I had a CBB female I produced back in 1995 lay 24 eggs today! She was bred by a CBB male produced in 1992 from a breeder in Miami. These eggs represent 'true' F2 CBB potential animals. I'm curious if anyone else has produced true F2 babies yet? The female is about 16" SCL and maybe 35 pounds?! The eggs 'look' good, but time will tell. They are easily about 25% smaller than a 'normal' sized Sulcata egg. Anyone else out there do this yet? If so, were the sizes of the adults similar? Did the babies turn out okay?

Thanks!

Matt
p.s. - Included is a pic of the CBB female who laid the eggs today.

I couldn't help but giggle at this comment. I'll be willing to bet that they are up to true f3 and/or f4 sulcatas. That's not to say your event is not an accomplishment. That female looks fantastic.
I just hatched out my first f2 Leopard. It is a baby from a baby that I hatched out from a WC pair that I recently lost so they are really special. (to me)
You have 2 choices... destroy the eggs (not) or hatch theem out. Despite what some say, I don't see why a tortoise egg should be destroyed.
