cillie Apr 14, 2004 08:43 PM

my beardie totally dispises water! she hasnt drank for like a month other than a few sips about last week, i've tried having a bowl in her cage: wasnt even touched!, spraying her cage: not even a lick of the glass!, bathing her: never even a head close to the water! and i've tried injecting it into her mouth: she just spits it back out! she is getting a little wrinkled and dark. is she getting enough water in her food? please someone help me, i dont want a dead beardie!

If she is eating veggies (ie: dark leafies such as collards, mustard greens, turnip greens, dandelion greens, etc) she should be getting water from them. You could also spray water onto her veggies before giving them to her.
I get my beardie to drink by soaking her in a shallow tub and splashing somme water up by her face, so she recognises the water. you could do this with an airstone too. or a dripper. She also may not want you to watch her while she drinks. Beardies are weird that way.

she gets dantelion greens, kale, and lettuces(NOT icberg). uasually the veggies are wet, but she only takes a few bites a day. i was maybe wondering to feed her no prey for a wile, to get her use to veggies and rehidrate her. will it work?

Thats EXACTLY what i had to do in order to get my bearded dragon to start eating greens and drinking water.

Im not sure if its good practice or not... but it sure worked for me.

I cut back the crickets by probably 50% for a peroid of 4 days. Enough that i knew he was still getting food... but that he'd still be hungry thru the day. Day 3 came along... i put the veggies sprayed with lots of water into the cage... and boy oh boy was i surprised... he ran at that bowl of food faster than ive ever seen him move.

After day 4, i put the crickets back to normal, and i now see regular feeding on both crickets, veggies and the water in with them.

Best of luck!
