peat moss mixed with substrate.......question please?

do any of you guys or gals use peat moss mixed in with other kinds of substrate for your monitors or is it a bad i dea was thinking of giving it a try.

Peat moss will lower the pH level of the soil (more acidic). This may be problematic for certain species.

Id use strained field dirt and add maybe some sand and try others additives, see waht that animal likes.
