Planning to build new cage.

MR_ANACONDA28 Apr 14, 2004 10:21 PM

Im planning on building a new cage for a soon to arive green (male) anaconda. Now I now how large they get but would like to hear some input on cage size. I was thinking about a 6w x 2t x 3w or would a 8 wide be better in the long run? hmmmm. If I go with a 8 footer I'd have to make it into two four footers just to get it into my snake room. What do you guys think?---Eric---

I would go with 8...i have a 6 ft cage now and my green is a yearling..in no way do i think it is too small now but when the snake gets 10 feet or more...a six foot cage does not let you add a water pool if you want to(well, you could..but noit the best)...now that my anaconda isnt male...i am going with the cages by design cage with the largest floor space. plus with their tendancy to thermoregulate frequently and go to cooler spots...you want at least 2 hide spots so after all that stuff and a 10 ft snake...your floor space really isnt that great. you can do it with either...but if i was building a cage, i would make it bigger if i had the room.

I just built my 6x2x2 cage and I know I will need another in a few years. I did it because I will always have a use for the 6ft. cage with another project and my apt. is small right now. I will be moving to a larger place soon so until then the 6ft. cage works great.
I guess my point is that it depends on your situation in alot of differen't ways. Like you stated that you'd have to have an 8' cage in 2 4' sections. Also maybe your male green will only top out at 10' in that case a 6' cage wouldn't seem inapropriate.
My 2 cents

It's supposed to be 85 here today so I'm planning on getting some good outside shots of my freshly shed snake. I'll post em later.

I had 2 six foot visions, I cut a hole in one side of each cage bolted them together so now I have a 12ft vision cage. I house my 11ft female green and my 7ft male green in there and there is plenty of room for them both in there. The only problem with this was that I had to support the whole 12ft of cageing underneath, because if I didnt they would sag big time. I dont expect you to do what I did, but just get creative and have fun with it.
