(very off topic) where is the best place you have travelled?

lizzylizard Apr 15, 2004 01:10 AM

I am going on a trip towards the end of May. Only problem is my mom and I cannot decide where to go. I want to go somewhere hot, not too far, and different. Here are the places I have been.

-The Galapagos Islands (The most amazing place IN THE WORLD!!!)
-The Amazon in Ecuador (same trip as above, and the best trip ever)
-Hawaii
-Honolulu
-Maui
-The Big island
-Florida
-California
-Texas
-Mexico
-PV
-Cozumel
-Guatemala
-Belize (another VERY amazing trip)
-England
-Italy (to young to remember)
-I'm going to Africa in one year (I'm counting down the days, I cannot wait it's been my life long dream to go)
-I'm sure there is more but I can't remember

My mom worked for the Airlines so we get cheap (or free) flights, that the reason I travel so much. I really want to go to Jamaica, has anyone been? Sorry for being so off topic.

damn girl!!! Wish I traveled that much!!!...honestly my favorite place in the world is Manatoulin Island, Canada...lol but then I haven't been to too many places...no place special anyway...I just like the peace and quiet and nature. Plus INCREDIBLE fishing!!!! lol Anyway...I'd suggest Australia...but it won't be any warmer there (I don't think anyway...lol...I know they're the opposite of us).

I've never heard of Manatoulin Island, is it on the West coast or East coast?

Yes my family has the travel bug BIG TIME!!!

Think of it this way when you say you haven't been anywhere special, you are somewhere special. Half of the world only dreams of coming to places like North America, but I know what you mean.

I would love to go to Australia, but that would have to ba a longer trip, we are only going for a week. Plus I don't trust my boyfriend looking after my zoo for any longer than that, lol.

lol....Manatoulin Island isn't anywhere near either coast...lol It's in Ontario on the northern edge of Lake Huron...biggest freshwater island in the world!

Thats cool, I've never really heard of a big Island being in a lake.

StinaUIUC Apr 15, 2004 02:26 AM

that's why its the largest freshwater island...and not largest island...lol It's mostly covered in lakes too...lol Just look at a map that includes lake huron...it should be there!

I can't help you with your travel dilema...sorry....but.....

i've wanted to go on a vacation for a long time.....i mean a real vacation far from here. But i've come to realize that the care of my geckos is priority and my faith in my family to care for them is limited right now.

I'm at a point now where i NEED a vacation.....its not just for pleasure..but for my sanity LOL.....so first i plan on getting everyone situated where i want them to be and then i'm going to train my brothers in the art of caring for them so i can take off for a week or two.

Like you i'm debating where to go....i'm not good at making decisions like that.....but i haven't been to Canadas east coast yet so thats an option.

What i think about is if i lived out on my own, with no one around to care for my geckos, a vacation wouldn't be an option. As much as they get on my nerves, i'm very thankful i do have family around.

I think i'll leave my brothers with the knowledge that if anything happens or they get freaked out they can always come on here and ask a question...that in itself makes me feel better about leaving. They will be in good hands

The farthest i've ever been from home is BC Canada. Not as exciting as say Italy or Rome, Paris or Austrailia, but it was fun

I think the best travelling i've ever done isn't about a place though. Its about the times when i have gotten up really early and gotten into my car and just started driving. I find a nice place to park with a Tim Hortons coffee and i watch the sun rise. I also like to take long drives by myself. I'll go for hours just to see something new, learn a new way to get somewhere, even if i get lost in the process. hehehe

One day I hope to live in BC, I love it there.

I tend to go for drives by myself as well but it's usually only when something is bothering me. I've begun to enjoy being by myself more and more. I'm not sure if it's a good thing or not, lol.

I don't personally think theres a problem with going out by oneself. Its nice, quiet and you can go where YOU chose. I usually end up at a pet shop and browse which most of my family and those few friends i have dont' like to do. One person i love to hang out with is an absolute hoot in a pet store. She has a habit of sticking her fingers in the cages.....always wanting to pet things......lol

Today is going to be a ME day.....i'm going shopping hehe. Some stuff for me (looking for some books), some for my geckos (more hides, plants etc.). I'm tired but once i get out of the house i'll start to really wake up

I tried to write back earlier but I was booted off the computer.

You Sound just like me, I no longer go shopping for me, it's for the animals. I probably spend 2-3 hours in pets stores and animal shelters weekly. I spend more on them than I do on myself, but then again I suppose they are sort of for me (as much as I hate to admit it).

When I lived at home my dad was there, the "all mighty" who knows everything about anything, LOL. I never worried about leaving Rex with my family because my dad always knew what to do. My boyfriend however, is somewhat more inexperienced in the pet department, making it more difficult to go anywhere.

I am in the same situation where I feel like I need to get away for a bit and RELAX. Once the travel bug hits it won’t go away until you fulfill it . I am thinking about going to the East Coast this summer, my grandparents just moved out to PEI. However, this summer I will be unable to leave them at home because there is no one here. If I do go on vacation I will have to move them all back to Calgary (2 hours away) while I'm gone.

Telling your brother about this site is a very good idea, I'm going to do the same with my boyfriend. Only thing is I don't know if he will notice if something is wrong.

When i was taking my PSW course my teacher taught us what *normal* was so we would know when we were seeing something that wasn't normal. It was a good way to inform us and i plan on teaching my brother. Then i'll leave alist of definete NOT normal things (like runny poop).

Your right though....i've got the vacation bug and its not going away hehe. PEI sounds good but a trip back out to BC would be cool too....i loved the mountains

I can't wait for this summer. I guess I'm kind of lucky because the mountains are only about an hour drive. I can go camping and just drive back when my stay-at-home pets need to be fed. Then I can just go right back to camping.

This summer I am definitely going to the Okanogan (Ossoyus the hottest lake in Canada). It’s been almost 20 years and I still don’t remember how to spell Ossoyus, I've been every year since I was 4 (except last year). I definitely have to figure out something to do with my pets.

I've heard Las Vagas is awsome, a buddy of mine goes down regiously to spend all his money. My mom was just there two years ago. I prefer to get away from people when I'm on vacation, so I don't think Las Vegas would be good for me.

I used to love going out ALL the time, I don't know what happend.

Ya Mon, Jamaica is nice. Mo Bay is busy, Negril is nice but there is alot of turmoil down there now. Been to Costa Rica eight times-I surf. Eluthera is awesome but the major airlines don't go, incredible water. Indonesia is like another planet but no leopard geckos!

lizzylizard Apr 15, 2004 03:24 PM

My folks went to Costa Rica a few years back. The pictures are amazing. In fact my mom mentioned something about going back. I take it you would say CR is better than Jamaica? Is it a lot like Belize in CR? The scuba diving in Belize was unreal.

I would like to go somewhere to experience a more layed back culture, and I've always thought of Jamaica being like that, but I could be wrong.

I tried surfing last year in Hawaii, it was so much fun, but I do suck big time at it. Not many places to practice in good old Lethbridge Alberta, lol.

I've never thought about Indonesia, I'll have to look into it. I know what you mean when you say it's like another world. The Galapagos was like that for sure. I have pictures of myself sun-tanning on a beach a foot (not exaggerated) away from a sea lion doing the same thing. There are iguanas all over the place they are so unscarred of people that you have to watch where you step because they don't run away. All over there are reptiles that you could almost (didn't try, I don't think your allowed) pick up. No leos though, lol. It’s like you went back millions of years before people came to earth and ruined it.

I'm not sure it is too safe to go there right now. I have been fortunate enough to have been to Cuba, Santo Domingo, Cozumel (gotta love the diving there), Cancun, Caymens (Ditto on the diving), Acapulco, Vancouver (BC), Hawaii, Guam, Singapore, Thailand, The Phillipines, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, The Persian Gulf (3 times, I don't recommend it ) , and probably a few places I forgot, but Bali was by far the best place of all!

When we were in Cozumel it was rainy almost the whole time, but the diving was pretty good there. Thats where I got certified. I really want to go to Cuba, Thailand, The Phillipines... all the places you mentioned, LOL. I really have to look into Indonesia, how far away is it?

Palau
Federated States of Micronesia (Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae)

should I go on? LOL

Some gecko pictures are soon to come. Where is a good place to store pictures for free? Larger space than kingsnake that is?
